This meeting will be kept brief, to meet the legal requirements for summoning the new Council in person, including the election of the new Chair.
The first regular meeting for the new Council, planned for 19th May, is intended to continue regular business by Zoom. However, this is subject to cancellation due to the expiry of legislation permitting virtual meetings on 7th May. An extension to this legislation is currently being proposed in the Administrative Court on behalf of Councils nationally, and the outcome will be published here as soon as possible.
In the event that remote meetings are not legally permitted to continue, the Council have approved the temporary devolvement of authority to the Clerk, who may continue to carry out all necessary business on their behalf, within agreed terms.
